There are many methods you can use to remove those unwanted dark circles under your eyes. If you have ever had anyone ask why you look so tired when you were sporting these dark circles, you know what I’m talking about. Dark circles leave us looking worn and, as stated above, tired. Fortunately, there are some quick steps you can take to help reduce or even eliminate the appearance of these dark circles.
The things that make us look tired (dark circles, puffiness, or bags under the eyes) are caused by a variety of different things. Having a cold or sinus infection, seasonal allergies, sleep deprivation, or crying can all contribute to (or even create) these unwanted effects.
Treating and Eliminating Dark Circles
The easiest way to combat dark circles is to place cold cucumber slices directly on your eyelids. Now, you should keep in mind here that your eyes should be closed during this process. The cold cucumber slices should be left on your closed eyelids for ten to fifteen minutes. Doing this will help to reduce the circles under your eyes. If you do not have cucumber, you can use anything that is cold like potato slices, chilled tea bags, cold metal spoons, or even a bag of frozen peas. Remember, the bag of frozen peas should be wrapped in a towel if you decide to go with this method.
Using crushed mint leaves, almond oil, or a cotton ball that has been soaked in rose water will assist in reducing the puffiness and discomfort associated with the swollen area. Remember, your eyes are very delicate, so you should always keep this in mind when you are deciding on which material to use for your eyes.
What to Do If the Home Remedies Are Not Working
If you have attempted the methods above for decreasing, or eliminating, dark circles or puffy eyes, and the issue is still persisting, you should probably consider talking to your doctor or eye care professional as this can be an indicator of another serious issue.
Understanding How the Delicate Tissue around The Eye Works
The human eye is a very intricate tool. We rely very heavily on our eyes, which is why it comes as such a shock that people seem to care so little about taking proper care of their eyes. The skin that surrounds the eyes is very delicate. It is much thinner than most of the other areas of the face, which is why it is so important to be incredibly careful when attempting to treat the eyes or areas around the eyes. The skin around your eyes has no oil glands and consists of a very fine texture similar to that of a newborn baby.
When people do not properly care for the skin around their eyes it tends to show up incredibly fast and predominantly. When people age, or if they are under a tremendous amount of stress, their eye health is greatly affected. Dark circles around the eyes, in fact, can also be hereditary just as insomnia, illness, or nutritional deficiencies have a large impact on your overall eye health. All of these factors should be taken into consideration when trying to figure out what the cause of dark circles or puffiness is. Then, and only then, can a person truly get to the bottom of things and resolve the issue.
Dark Circles and You
Unfortunately, dark circles can occur at any age without warning. However, it is more common in elderly people. The best way to avoid dark circles, as you age, is to ensure you are eating a proper diet and going to all of your regularly scheduled eye exams.
Exercise has been proven to help blood circulation when it is used in conjunction with deep breathing. This also helps oxygenation as well as stress control. Unfortunately, many of us live very fast paced lives today and do not have a lot of time (or energy) to exercise as much as we should. Try to at least get some exercise in each day (even if it is only for ten minutes of decent activity) as it will help you to maintain your health and avoid dark circles in the future.
Procedures You Can Try
There are creams you can purchase that have been specially formulated for the area around the eyes that are designed to help reduce or eliminate the appearance of fine lines, bags, puffiness, dark circles, or discomfort from any of these. If you wear makeup, a cleansing gel or cream are the best for removing the makeup on your face from the sensitive area around the eyes. Using a gel or cream to remove makeup from your eyes is an excellent way to remove, not only makeup, but grime from the area.
Facial masks are not usually applied around the eyes, however, if you go to a spa to have a facial done they will likely massage the sensitive area around the eye to promote health and stimulate the skin. Using a cream with almond within it is great for nourishing the skin and helping your skin tone if it is used over a period of time.
Believe it or not, you can also relieve fatigue of the eyes by washing your eyes with warm water followed by cold water. The change in temperature helps improve blood circulation to the eyes while soothing any irritation or discomfort. Additionally, washing your eyes with warm then cold water will cleanse the eyes while relieving congestion at the same time.
Additional Thoughts
If you decide to use cucumber juice around the eyes, it can help if you apply it daily; however, you should always wash it off with regular cool water after fifteen minutes maximum. If you mix potato juice with cucumber juice, in a fifty fifty mix, you are able to reduce puffiness along with the dark circles if you apply it once per day and wash the mixture off after fifteen minutes of having it on your face. Mixing cucumber juice with lemon juice, in a fifty/fifty ratio, will also work for reducing puffiness and dark circles. Again, wash the mixture off your eyes after fifteen minutes of having it on your face.
Tomato juice has been said to lighten skin color. You can put some tomato juice on the area and (just as before) wash the tomato juice off after fifteen minutes of having it on your face. If you were hoping for a less messy solution, the best method available to date is the cold cucumber method.
The delicate skin around the eyes is a very fragile area. If this area is not healthy it can be very difficult for you to maintain healthy eyes as well. The human body works in strange ways. The body infects itself and infections spread if you do not properly care of them. It is important to act when you notice a change in your body, like dark circles.
